Our victim is buried. Six feet underneath the snow, an athletic 98kg male will be able to breathe freely for an average of 18 minutes before they begin to suffocate.
In the proceeding minutes, the CO2 levels in the air pocket will reach a lethal concentration, causing asphyxiation to slowly set in. The victim will die an average of 30 minutes after burial.
Our solutions uptakes the CO2 before it reaches lethal levels, thereby extending the survival phase by up to 60 minutes.
After 35 minutes on average, victims wearing a GPS beacon or IR reflector will be found by search & rescue parties.
Avatek gives victims a realistic chance to reach this phase before any asphyxia-related harm is done.
After an average of 60 minutes, evacuation parties arrive by helicopter to safely escort the victim to the nearest healthcare centre.
Even if the victim were to be buried at this time, Avatek gives them a realistic chance of being alive, unharmed by the effects of CO2-poisoning, and in the position to be rescued.
